The central objective of CONECTUS is to strengthen the general infrastructure for commercial applications of superconductivity in Europe:
Superconductivity will become one of the key technologies of the 21st century. Applications of superconductivity go far beyond existing markets. However, for these markets to open up, further developments in materials process technology, as well as significant industrial scale demonstrators are necessary. For this to happen, not only concerted actions from industry are needed, but also significant scientific input from academia as a result of continuous governmental support.
Technological barriers need to be overcome, and plausible market potentials developed, an understanding of which can only be provided by industry given appropriate scientific inputs. Co-operation between industrial organisations, even with collaboration between direct competitors, is necessary to make this process effective. In Europe, CONECTUS was established in order to provide a neutral platform for this activity.
To stimulate the mutual exchange
between CONECTUS and ESAS, the Chairman of CONECTUS is also a Board Member
of ESAS, and the former President of ESAS is a Personal Member of CONECTUS.
